Preamble on Co-Writing with AI
Most of these texts were written with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence. I chose to work this way for the same reason writers have always adopted new tools: because tools expand what we are capable of doing.
A backhoe moves more earth than a shovel. An airplane travels distances no one would expect to cross on foot. Word processors replaced typewriters, and spellcheck replaced hours of manual proofreading. None of these innovations diminished the value of the work; they simply transformed the means by which it is produced. Artificial intelligence is no different. It is a drafting and editing instrument, a support for productivity—not a substitute for imagination, judgment, or responsibility. The stories remain mine: shaped by my decisions, revised by my hand, and sustained by my voice.
Some regard new tools as a kind of impurity, as though effort alone were the measure of authenticity. But difficulty does not guarantee quality, and hard work, in itself, does not make a work meaningful. What matters is the result: whether a story moves, provokes, or endures. In the end, you, the readers, are free to enjoy these stories or not. But the way they were written should matter less than what they ultimately convey.
