Spanish OER Projects

Beginner Spanish (CEFR A1-B1)

This project consists of a first year university Spanish open educational resource (OER) that meets the requirements of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages while also complying with the current standards established across North America by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Modules corresponding to the curriculum are based on existing OERs while identifying gaps and opportunities to insert Canadian components for the first half of the curriculum. The end point corresponding with the existing break between the two 3 credit first year courses offered at most post‐secondary institutions. Additional OERs were created to fill the gaps identified in existing OERs. OERs were created to highlight the Hispanic presence in Canada while at the same time celebrating Canadian achievements, values, and history. The resulting materials are integrated into an aesthetically pleasing Moodle platform which is housed by Athabasca University with open access under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike licence. Access to the full textbook is available here after registration: Beginner Spanish OER. This open resource is constantly being updated and we are completing the second half of the first year curriculum. We welcome any additions and contributions from the community to complete this task.

Textual Analysis and Composition (CEFR B2-C1)

This project is creating an open educational resource (OER) in the form of an online textbook to be used in 2nd and 3rd year Spanish textual analysis and composition courses. The textbook is based on readings and assignments created by undergraduate students during collaborative online and class-based activities aligned to UNESCO's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The assignments likewise have the potential to contribute and to enrich the textbook through future enhancements. The materials are integrated into an aesthetically pleasing Moodle platform which is housed by Athabasca University with open access under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike licence. While development is currently in progress, access to the textbook content as a guest is available here: La palabra escrita para un mundo de retos globales. This open resource is currently being created. We welcome any additions and contributions from the community to complete this task.
